In most cases, the frantic search for the fountain of youth ends up with hours spent trying fad beauty tips and spending far too much money on expensive creams. But if we take a step back, there is one tip that has stood the test of time! Got any ideas?
Well, if you guessed sleep, then you’re right! Getting your daily quota of sleep is one thing, but getting the deep restful type of sleep that results in bright eyes and clear skin is easier said than done. Experts suggest that the key to falling into a deep and rejuvenating sleep is developing a relaxing routine before bed that prepares your body and mind for rest.
By now, you’re probably thinking that taking a bubble bath while soaking in a few pages of your favorite novel is a good enough routine. But we’re here to tell you that there’s one more element to add to the mix. While it’s easy to dismiss nightwear or think it is not of much importance, one of the best bedtime rituals is to slip into nightwear that is comfortable, relaxing and most importantly, sustainable! Knowing that your PJs are made of organic, sustainable materials that are better for the environment and human health, is a sure fire way to ensure a beautiful night’s sleep, every night!
As designers, creatives and humans living in a world of increasing mass-production, manufacturing pajamas in a responsible and sustainable way is fundamentally important to us. And it should be to you too. But what makes clothing sustainable? For us, it’s considering who makes your products, under what conditions the products made and how the processes and products affect our planet and the people who share it.
At FeelGood, we strive for ways to reduce our impact on the environment through our processes and selection of materials. We also believe that our customers have the right to know where and how their pajamas are made - because of this, we’re completely transparent, and proud, of our entire production and supply chain. We’re here to make sure that you feel good because you do good! So if you’re wondering how you can be sustainable in your sleep, here’s how.
Wear Ethically Sourced Fabrics
When you buy pajamas from FeelGood, you're spreading sustainability in numerous ways. Firstly, you’re buying and wearing fabrics that have been ethically sourced. Using a selection of traditional batik from Indonesia, double gauze cotton from Japan, and silk-cotton sari from India, we choose cotton threads handpicked from countries with a strong cultural and fabric heritage. The reason? Because we believe that using handpicked, traditional, and ethically sourced threads are the key to producing pajamas that are long-lasting, luxurious and stylish at the same time.
Wear Organic Sustainable Materials
For us, choosing to use materials that respect our environment and our health, is the key to sustainability. Among other materials, we choose to use cotton threads because it contains no chemicals that could pollute our water and put the workers’ health in danger. It also does not harm your skin when you wear it.
And if you’re wondering what we do with the off-cuts of our fabric, take a look at our recent Fabric Upcycling workshop that was held for the school children of PAUD Widya Kumara Sari in March 2017. In an effort to educate the children about reusing materials in a way that increases a product’s value and makes it desirable again, the FeelGood team taught 42 school kids how to turn the fabric scraps into something valuable. Not only did this workshop educate the children about sustainability, but it saved our off-cuts from going to waste.
Help Spread The Love
Our pajamas are made by artisans who use their traditional methods of cloth making, which is slowly disappearing with the modern world’s fast fashion. By embracing and utilizing the artisans skills, we strive to preserve their talent and showcase it to the world by producing pajamas that are beautiful, comfortable and unique.
On top of this, when you buy our pajamas, you’re also elevating the livelihood of the skilled artisans and ensuring that each of them has the necessary income to live a comfortable, sustainable life.
Choose Ethical Pajamas
All of our pajamas are made in a safe, clean and fair way. In our case, our sleepwear is made in a workshop, named Mata Dewi, that practices green manufacturing under ethical and sustainable conditions. All the workers can be found under good working conditions, safety and security. Some of the pajamas have beautiful hand painted patterns that are delicately created through the traditional Indonesian technique “Batik Tulis”, a technique which was designated a Unesco Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
So there you have it, a step-by-step guide on how to be sustainable in your sleep. You have the choice to select well-made, ethically manufactured, sustainable products that will make you look and feel luxurious. Doing good has never felt this good!
