WOULD YOU GIFT HOPE THIS CHRISTMAS BY SPONSORING A CHILD TO SCHOOL?
The time has come for us at Love Stories Bali to invite you and your friends. For $150 USD to sponsor a child to preschool for one year, can you help? As of December 2020, parents or caretakers of 60 children just couldn’t afford to continue the low-cost annual fees due to financial hardship exacerbated by the pandemic. This year, our limited net profit from purchases (since our shop has been closed from March 2020 to present due to the pandemic) enables us to sponsor some children but with your help we HOPE all 60 children will be sponsored come January 2021.
SIMPLE STEPS TO SPONSORING A CHILD
1. Your contribution of $150 USD will sponsor one child to attend PAUD Cemara Kasih for one year, 2021. That covers monthly tuition, learning materials, and uniforms (which are mandatory in Indonesia).
2. We request credit card payment through this website. This is currently the least-hassle way.
3. You will get the child’s profile and photo as well as an email update from us about the child’s development as you prefer:
- monthly update
- or quarterly update
- no update needed
ABOUT AGNES AND THE SCHOOL
Agnes Rini Astuti, an empowered local teacher, founded PAUD Cemara Kasih in 2010 with nothing more than her savings plus donations and her motherly love. Today, the school has 170 children learning via zoom and whatsapp and 15 teachers. Since 2016, we've been supporting Agnes in accomplishing her mission to educate preschoolers in Bali from families in extreme poverty with sustainable early development curriculum focusing on “life skills” - such as discipline, nutrition, cooking, gardening, even entrepreneurship and more.
In 2018, our first collective fund - from 50% of our net proceeds in 2017 plus funds raised in New York with families and friends - helped expand the school facilities including purchase of the land next to the school, building an organic garden for the children which differentiates the school from other preschools in Bali, and a training room where Agnes train teachers in the region who are excited to reuse her sustainable early development curriculum. By the end of 2018, Agnes received a prestigious national award as 1 or 12 “Changemakers of Indonesia” for her innovations in early development.
In 2019, we focused on upskilling Agnes and her 15 teachers to help them improve the children’s learning. By connecting local and international volunteers and experts on greening schools, Montessori way, and recycling, Agnes evolved the school to be plastic free and the use of nature-focused learning materials. In November 2019, Agnes went to Italy beyond her belief! She was selected as 1 of 15 nationwide teachers to participate in teachers’ training on the Reggio Emilia preschool approach. She was the only teacher selected from Bali.
In November 2020, Agnes was selected by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education to participate in developing the nationwide required curriculum for preschools using the Reggio Emilio approach. She was the only teacher selected from Bali.
Agnes is a gem. We take pride in empowering a woman who’s not only giving underprivileged children the privilege to go to school. She’s also modeling the way to sustainable early development and generously training Bali teachers to empower them to transform to an eco school.
