Our School Mission In a Nutshell
Agnes Rini Astuti founded PAUD (preschool) Cemara Kasih
in 2010 with nothing more than her savings plus family
donations. And a big mission: educate preschoolers from
low-income families with a sustainable early development
program focusing on life skills, and materials from nature.
Our school mission is to raise fund to help accomplish
Agnes' mission. Our funds from 2017-2018 helped expand
the school to the next-door land and build an organic garden
for children's education and food. We sponsor children from
families in extreme poverty for $150 USD for one child for
one year. After the local government recognized the school
in 2018 as a model green school, Agnes became a volunteer
trainer for hundreds of local teachers wanting to emulate her
green program. And more. A continuous flow of our Ubud
shop customers volunteered at the school.
International early-development teachers, greening experts,
and sustainability advocates volunteered to contribute.
The school is now plastic free.
Today Agnes is multi-awarded:
. In 2020, she was selected by the Ministry of Education
to take part in reshaping the country's required
sustainable early development curriculum.
She was the only teacher from Bali.
. In 2019, she was sponsored for Reggio Emilia early
education teachers' training in Italy along with 15
nationwide teachers. She was the only one from Bali.
. In 2018, she was one of 12 "Changemakers of Indonesia"
(a national award annually granted by the Indonesian
government) for her innovative early development
