Not just an everyday hat, it's plant dyed with happy colors. We dyed by hand the recycled cotton threads with 100% pigments from dye plants. Your head and your hair enjoy freedom from harsh dye chemicals, and the cool appeal of desaturated plant colors. We imagine Mama Earth smiling when you wear it. Iluh, 20-year old Balinese, crocheted this hat with pride because it's her first time to crochet hats, and the results is stunning.

We know your friends will be asking so get ready to tell the handcrafting story below.

A Love Story of Giving

Letting Artisan Iluh Go Global: In March 2021, we met our young crochet artisan, Iluh, 20 years old, who's so proud that she'd been crocheting with her mom since she was 7 years old. She's beyond excited for her creations to go global for the first time. What's inspiring about Iluh's passion is her simple 'why' - crocheting makes her happy, period.

Plant Dyeing the Hat: Plant dyeing is an age-old technique that we are obsessed to share to the world because it is beautiful and healthy. It is using natural dyes that are extracted by hand from sustainably cultivated and harvested plants instead of synthetic chemicals made by machines. The non-polluting process of harvesting, drying, mulching, and extracting the color from the plants, preparing the fabric, and the dye bathing itself (which requires a repetition of massaging, marinating and drying the fabric by hand) take more time, effort and creativity. Results are unpredictable and affected by serendipity in climate, sunlight, water, even soil fertility and when plants were harvested. But these variances make the pieces unique and groundbreaking. Good for the health: Safer than synthetic dyes as they don't contain chemicals harmful to health. Good for the ecosystem: As plants can be regrown, they’re a renewable, low-cost source. Good for the heart: Fun and therapeutic, and has more room for artistry.

  • Small Size: Hat Circumference: 20 in * 50 cm.  Hat Height: 6 in * 15 cm
  • Large Size: Hat Circumference: 24 in * 62 cm. Hat Height: 7 in * 18 cm
  • Care for long-lasting plant-dye: Cold hand wash or machine wash. Use eco-friendly or gentle detergent. Air dry in the shade or tumble dry low. Dry clean not recommended as natural dyes react to heavy synthetic chemicals. Plant dyed colors will fade if left in the sun for a long time and washed in hot water. Mend when torn.
